Tottington Woodlanders Site Map
Following the establishment of the Woodlanders the entire site was divided up into compartments called Cants. These subdivisions are used to define areas to cut coppice and allow us to survey specific areas. The coppice cycle was originally an eight year cycle, but this is no longer strictly adhered to. Different parts of the wood regenerate at inconsistent rates. Therefore the coppicing cycle is determined by the maturity of the coppice and the needs of our market. This accords much more with traditional practice, which was geared to need rather than artificial constraints.
